Austin Beerworks
TRP visited Austin Beerworks in January 2012 just months after Austin Beerworks first opened for business in 2011. The four founders Michael, Will, Adam and Mike set out to make a beer that Austin could be proud of. I have to say that they have succeeded in this effort as you can see ABW beer on taps all around Austin.
Austin Beerworks’ has four flagship beers that are only available in Austin: Fire Eagle American IPA, Pearl Snap Pils, Peace Maker Extra Pale Ale, and Black Thunder, a Schwartz beer, whose name was partially inspired by the movie Black Dynamite.
Austin Beerworks is a production facility located in a warehouse district in Northern Austin. Therefore they are only open to the public once a week. On Friday they host a Happy Hour from 5pm – 8pm with tours at 6 and 7. Each week they post a link to the event page where you can sign up for tickets, but they are limited, so it’s best if you follow them on Facebook to stay up to date.
Due to Texas law production breweries can’t sell their beer on premise and thus have to give away any beer they serve for free. You will get three tickets good for 4 oz pours. However the savvy consumer will buy one of their pint glasses that can be filled instead of the sample cups thus giving the patron a sizable increase in value. They prefer cash but credit cards are excepted.
ABW’s branding was done by the talented Helms Workshop and as designer’s we loved every aspect of it… including the beer. Do yourself a favor and visit their website. It’s beautiful!
