The nerdy designer and the Kansas Citian in me both got really excited last night when a friend showed me this story: “Austin ad agency lands national Southern Comfort rebranding” that ends with a zinger.
If you haven’t heard of Helms Workshop before you have probably seen their work. They have worked on iconic beverage brands such as the aforementioned Southern Comfort, Austin Beerworks, Fullsteam Brewery (Durham, NC), and Modern Times Brewery (San Diego).
As a native Kansan I love the Boulevard Brewing Company and have always enjoyed their graphics. The logo is iconic and simple and the label illustrations are always well executed…individually.
With their ever expanding line of flagships, seasonals, Smokestack Series, and their new foray into cans the graphics have become more disjointed and lack the consistency of many regional breweries such as New Belgium, Oskar Blues, and Seirra Nevada. So I’m really excited to see what Helms Workshop can do to unite the Boulevard brand and help it stand out from the crowd just like their beer does.
