As I type this we are heading south to Omaha from Minnesota for a week with friends and beer! We had plans to go to South Dakota this week to get over to Colorado and avoid driving through Nebraska to get there. For those of you that haven’t made the drive, it is infamous for being the most boring drive ever, 6 hours of cornfields and practically nothing else. But alas, beer takes precedence once again and with really good reason. Tomorrow we are going to the Crescent Moon for the Homegrown Homebrewers festival which is sure to bring some creative brews from the SOB’s, South Omaha Brewers, and the Railroaders Brew Club.
Then next weekend we are attending the Great Nebraska Beer Fest, which is organized by Nebraska Brewing Co.
The list is incredible, with a good representation for the midwest, including my local favorites, Free State Brewery, Boulevard and Tallgrass. I will be looking forward to some new breweries we have yet to visit including Grimm Bros. from Loveland, CO, Funkwerks, Fort Collins, CO and Cigar City, Tampa, FL. We will also be seeking out the sours poured by the Crooked Stave from Fort Collins and New Planet out of Boulder, for my gluten-free friends, they will be pouring 3R Raspberry Ale and their Off The Grid Pale Ale. And of course, I will be seeking out all of Nebraska Brewing Company’s beers, with hourly releases including Violet Tendencies (2:30), Toasted Barn (4:00), Doorstop Sour Brown (5:00) and I will be very interested to try their Hop God with Cocoa Nibs and Vanilla and Raspberry Ginger Lemon Wit.
It is going to be a great day and we plan to bring you as much coverage as we can. If you are unable to make this year’s beerfest, I am sorry for your loss, but you can make up for it by telling 2 of your friends that would be able to go and look forward to next year’s beerfest! Cheers!
